Hello Hage Families,
---------- January 29, 2022 ----------
This is Mr. Lee with your Sunday Message and updates. A huge shout-out
to all Hage families that supported our APEX Fun Run fundraiser (largest
fundraiser of the year). The amount we collectively raised
is still being counted but we definitely exceeded all expectations
and broke our previous record this year. Since we met our goal, Mr. Lee
will be dressing in pink and will be slimed in front of the whole school.
More info to come on when this will take place. Another shout-out to our
wonderful PTA and volunteers for putting on an amazing Science Night this past
Friday. Here's what is happening:

Events like
this are an exciting way for the PTA to engage our school community, but they
depend on volunteer support. Assuming there are enough volunteers, the goal
would be to manage your time in such a way that you can also enjoy some of the
event alongside your child(ren).
Thank you so
much for considering! ☺

---------- January 15, 2022 ----------
This is Mr. Lee with your Sunday Message and updates. Tomorrow Jan. 16, school is closed in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In honor of Dr. King's legacy, we ask all Panthers to find ways to serve others and our community. Here's what is happening:
• Jan. 17-26: APEX Fun Run. Our largest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds go to support VAPA, Swim Program, reading programs, classroom support, and more.
• Wed. Jan. 18: Additional Minimum Day- Dismissal at 12 Pm Noon. Please plan accordingly.
In recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, all San Diego Unified School District schools and offices will be closed Monday, January 16.
The federal holiday takes place on the third Monday of January each year, marking the birthday of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
Born on January 15, 1929, King led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his death by assassination in 1968. His leadership was fundamental in advancing civil rights for people of color and ending the legal segregation of African Americans in the South and other parts of the United States.
However, the King holiday we now celebrate each year faced a long road to recognition.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day didn't become a federal holiday until 1986, nearly 20 years after it was introduced to Congress. Even then, it faced an upward battle for all states to recognize the holiday, only getting nationally recognized in 2000.
Today, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is also federally designated as a National Day of Service, and encourages Americans to volunteer or give back to their communities in a meaningful way. To learn more and celebrate, see:

Additional Info:
- Before break, the district
provided all students and staff with at-home COVID-19 test kits to help
our school communities have greater peace of mind about returning to
school safely on Tuesday, Jan. 3 after the winter break.
The California Department of Public Health now recommends self
testing for COVID-19 the day before coming back to school and two or three days
after returning. We encourage students and staff to test on Monday,
Jan. 2 and again on either Wednesday, Jan 4 or Thursday, Jan 5.
Testing before returning to school is recommended but not required.
Additional test kits for students and staff are available at the Ed
Center COVID-19 testing facility. If
you test positive for COVID-19, please do not attend school and report your
illness here.
Please do not send your child to school if they are feeling sick or
experiencing symptoms of any cold-like virus, until those symptoms start to
improve and there is no fever for 24 hours (without use of fever-reducing
medication). Keeping your sick child home will be a great benefit for the
health and wellness of our students and staff.
What Symptoms to Look For
- The flu and COVID-19 are both
spread from person-to-person, especially indoors and in crowded places.
Symptoms for both viruses can include nasal congestion, fever, headache,
and muscle and joint pain, as well as a sore throat and coughing.
- RSV is a respiratory virus
that has been detected in previous cold and flu seasons. Symptoms of RSV include
cough, runny nose, and fever. Treatment consists of managing symptoms.
- Tips to Avoid
Getting Sick [English | Español)
Public health officials offer these tips to prevent getting sick:
- Consider wearing a
well-fitting, good-quality mask, especially indoors or in crowded spaces
- Wash hands thoroughly and
often
- Use hand sanitizers, if
unable to wash hands
- Stay away from sick people
- Avoid touching your eyes,
nose, and mouth
- Clean commonly touched
surfaces and/or wash/sanitize your hands after using them.
- Stay up to date on COVID-19 and flu
vaccines
Thank you and have a great night.

Message from Nursing and Wellness:
Dear San Diego Unified families and colleagues,
As we approach Thanksgiving break, and winter break shortly after, we want
to remind all staff, students and their families to take precautions to stay
well during the holiday season. During this time, when many families will be
traveling and/or gathering with friends and family, illnesses such as the
influenza virus (flu), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), COVID-19, and the
common cold can easily spread.
The district is providing all students and staff with at-home COVID-19 test
kits to help our school communities have greater peace of mind about returning
to school safely after the break. We encourage students and staff to
test on the last Friday (November 25) of the break and on Monday morning
(November 28) before returning to campus. Testing before returning to
school is recommended but not required. Additional test kits for students and
staff are available at the Ed Center COVID-19 testing facility. If you test positive
for COVID-19, please do not attend school and report your illness here.
As a reminder, please do not send your child to school if they are feeling
sick or experiencing symptoms of any cold-like virus, until those symptoms
start to improve and there is no fever for 24 hours (without use of
fever-reducing medication). Keeping your sick child home will be a great
benefit for the health and wellness of our students and staff.
What Symptoms to Look For
- The flu and COVID-19 are both
spread from person-to-person, especially indoors and in crowded places.
Symptoms for both viruses can include fever, headache, and muscle and
joint pain, as well as a sore throat and coughing.
- RSV is a respiratory virus
that has been detected in previous cold and flu seasons. Symptoms of RSV
include cough, runny nose, and fever. Treatment consists of managing
symptoms.
Tips to Avoid Getting Sick
San Diego County health officials offer these tips to prevent getting sick:
- Consider wearing a
well-fitting, good-quality mask, especially indoors or in crowded spaces
- Wash hands thoroughly and
often
- Use hand sanitizers, if
unable to wash hands
- Stay away from sick people
- Avoid touching your eyes,
nose, and mouth
- Clean commonly touched
surfaces and/or wash/sanitize your hands after using them.
- Stay up to date on COVID-19 and flu vaccines
Thank you for your partnership in helping us keep our students and staff
healthy. If you have questions about these topics, please call 211 or contact
your school nurse. We thank you for your cooperation and support.
Sincerely,

---------- November 20, 2022 ----------
This is Mr. Lee with your Sunday Message. This week is Thanksgiving Break and school is
closed. We hope your break is restful and filled
with opportunities to connect with loved ones. Please be safe and
healthy. We look forward to re-connecting with you on Mon. Nov. 28.
COVID test kits went home on Thurs. and we encourage students and staff test on
Fri. Nov. 25 and the before school on Mon. Nov. 28th.
Thank you and have a great night.
Message from Nursing
and Wellness:
Dear San Diego Unified families and colleagues,
As we approach Thanksgiving break, and winter break shortly after, we want
to remind all staff, students and their families to take precautions to stay
well during the holiday season. During this time, when many families will be
traveling and/or gathering with friends and family, illnesses such as the
influenza virus (flu), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), COVID-19, and the
common cold can easily spread.
The district is providing all students and staff with at-home COVID-19 test
kits to help our school communities have greater peace of mind about returning
to school safely after the break. We
encourage students and staff to test on the last Friday (November 25) of the
break and on Monday morning (November 28) before returning to campus. Testing
before returning to school is recommended but not required. Additional test
kits for students and staff are available at the Ed Center COVID-19 testing facility. If you test positive

District
Recognizes Filipino American History Month, Celebrates 35 Years of Filipino
Language Program
San Diego Unified is proud to recognize October as Filipino American
History Month — an opportunity to learn and appreciate the significant role
Filipinos have played in American history, and to learn more about Filipino
culture and contributions.
On Tuesday the Board of Education issued
a proclamation recognizing Filipino American
History Month and celebrating the 35th year of the district's Filipino
language program. The proclamation also honored the important role of
organizations such as the Filipino American Educators Association of San
Diego County (FILAMEDA) in creating and supporting this language program.
Filipino Americans are the second largest Asian American group in the
nation and the third largest ethnic group in California, and San Diego
Unified currently serves nearly 5,000 Filipino American students across the
district.
The celebration of Filipino American History Month in October commemorates
the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the continental United States,
which occurred on October 18, 1587, in what is now Morro Bay,
California. Learn

---------- September 11, 2022 ----------
This is Mr. Lee with your Sunday Message and updates for the week. The
weather forecast shows this week's temperatures will be cooling down and
we are getting back to more seasonal temperatures in the low 80's. As you
prepare to send your students to school, remember labeling reusable
water bottles, clothing, and other personal items will help get these items
back to your students if things are misplaced. Here's what is happening:
- Sun. 9/11: Annually on
Sept. 11th we honor those that lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks.
We will never forget.
- Wed. 9/14: Additional Minimum Day.
Dismissal is at Noon on Wed. and Thurs. this week. Please plan
accordingly.
- Thurs. 9/15: Hage Restaurant Fundraiser at 40 N Pho
and Grill Noon until 8 PM. Please present the
attached flyer (Hage
Fundraiser Sep 2022.pdf) at time of purchase to get 10% of your total
donated back to Hage. Great food and money for our school is a
Win-Win.

PTA updates:
- Parents interested in
volunteering with the PTA, please email (pta.hage@gmail.com)
directly or complete this quick google form.
- We need your support in joining our PTA and Panther
Partnership. These are two great ways to support our
school and our students. We need you to help make our school even
better for our students. Please see the attached flyers for more
info: Join PTA flyer.pdf and 2022-23 Panther Partnership flyers.pdf. Joining
PTA is only $12 and our Panther Partnership commitment can be as low as $5
a month.
Additional info:
- Our traffic flow is getting
better everyday and it will take us all to continue to make it
better. Here are suggested ways to help us increase efficiency:
- Grades UTK-1 are
the only families required to pick up their student 1-1. This is crucial
for safety of our youngest learners. The designated area to the left of the Lunch
court gate is meant for UTK-1 families only.
- Grades 2-5 families, we
strongly recommend you to
make arrangements with their students ahead of time to designate a pick up
area. Having a designated place will
reduce anxiety and crowding while students look for caregivers. If you choose to park, please wait by
your car (preferred) or to the side of the drive up lanes.
- We strongly encourage caregivers of
2-5th grade students that drive to use of the drive up lanes or park
and wait by your car. Standing by the dismissal gate
and looking for your student creates more crowding.
Thank you for your help.
---------- September 4, 2022 ----------

yourself with the routines of school and we appreciate your efforts, patience,
and understanding. Here's what is happening:

---------- August 28, 2022 ----------
This is Mr. Lee with your Sunday Message and updates for the week. We
are excited to welcome our families and students to the first day of
school. It will be the busiest drop-off day of the year and I suggest you
walk or park outside of the school if you need to leave campus quickly.
As always, we encourage safe driving throughout our parking lots to ensure
safety for all. If you are driving onto campus there is a max 15 mph
limit and we ask that you limit distractions while traveling. It
takes all of us to keep our community safe.
On the first day, families are welcome to come onto campus to take pictures,
capture memories, and walk their student to class. If you choose to walk
your student to class, we ask that you ease the transition by waving to
them as they walk into class. This will allow for a smooth transition and
allow us to safely secure our campus as families exit. After
the first day, we will be securing campus and only allowing students to
come in.
If you are able to stay around til 8:10, we will be having a meet and greet
with AP Ligon and I in the Aud.
Please click on the links below to review the information and familiarize yourself
with our procedures.
Thank you and have a great night.
